Stock market: Vietnam’s VN-Index climbs as foreign buying picks up
The VN-Index advanced 12.12 points to close at 1,457.76 on July 11, 2025, up 0.84 percent, supported by strong foreign investor net buying and gains in large-cap stocks, according to the latest data from the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange.
Currency: Vietnam Dong holds steady as central bank trims cash injections, Friday
Vietnam’s central exchange rate was dialled back slightly to VND 25,128 per US dollar Friday, a mild decline of three dong from the a day earlier.
Garments & textiles: Vietnam’s top import sources for materials and auxiliaries (June 2025)
Vietnam’s imports of textile, leather and footwear materials and auxiliaries saw a significant decline in June 2025, reaching $588,506,418, a -7.67 percent decrease compared to May 2025 according to data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Labour: Vietnam wage council finalises proposal for 7.2 percent minimum wage increase
Vietnam’s National Wage Council has decided to propose a 7.2 percent increase in the regional minimum wage from 1 January 2026, to the Prime Minister for approval, Tuoi Tre has reported. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has proposed a minimum wage increase of 8.3 to 9.2 percent with business groups pushing for an increase of between 3-5 percent.
Aviation: Vietnam’s private airlines face unequal treatment, call for reform
Vietnam’s private airlines face major disadvantages compared to state-owned carriers, limiting their ability to compete and grow, according to Luong Hoai Nam, CEO of Bamboo Airways, and reported by Tap Chi Hang Khong.
Trade: Politico raises doubts over whether Vietnam-US trade deal confirmed
Vietnam expected a lower US tariff rate than the 20 percent President Trump announced July 2, according to four people familiar with the discussions, per a report in Politico. As such, Trump’s announcement surprised and angered Vietnamese officials, who felt blindsided after private negotiations, the publication has said.
