Yarn: Vietnam exports dip 5.46% in May, despite strong USA and Colombia growth

Vietnam’s exports of yarn reached US$341.70 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a decrease of 5.46 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) export value to US$1.74 billion.

Top Markets and Notable Increases:

  • The USA saw strong growth of 26.26 percent, reaching US$25.59 million, accounting for 5.60 percent of YTD exports.
  • Colombia recorded a significant increase of 27.04 percent to US$5.66 million.
  • Egypt exports jumped by 36.78 percent.
  • Brazil saw a healthy increase of 6.76 percent.
  • The Philippines registered a slight increase of 2.76 percent.
  • Turkey also showed a modest increase of 0.34 percent.

Significant Declines:

  • India experienced the sharpest decrease, plummeting by 42.75 percent.
  • Cambodia exports fell by 35.05 percent.
  • Italy decreased by 33.60 percent.
  • UK fell by 30.09 percent.
  • Sri Lanka decreased by 26.62 percent.
  • Malaysia fell by 19.00 percent.
  • Thailand by 17.91 percent.
  • Peru by 15.28 percent.
  • Pakistan by 11.23 percent.
  • South Korea by 8.77 percent.
  • Indonesia by 7.84 percent.
  • Hong Kong by 7.97 percent.
  • China, the largest YTD market, saw a 3.95 percent decrease.
  • Other notable declines were observed in Bangladesh, Taiwan, Japan, Romania, and Chile.
  • The “Other” category also saw a decrease of 12.77 percent.

The May data for Vietnam’s yarn exports indicates an overall monthly decline, primarily due to significant reductions in shipments to India, Cambodia, and several European markets. Despite strong growth in the USA and Colombia, the sector faced challenges in its major markets, contributing to the overall decrease.
