Wood & wooden products: Vietnam exports dip 2.50% in May

Vietnam’s exports of wood and wooden products reached US$1.41 billion in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a decrease of 2.50 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) export value to US$6.81 billion.

Top Markets and Notable Increases:

  • The USA remained the dominant market, with exports increasing by 6.64 percent to US$852.01 million, accounting for a significant 55.61 percent of YTD exports.
  • The Netherlands recorded strong growth of 33.06 percent to US$7.79 million.
  • Thailand exports jumped by 7.72 percent.
  • Cambodia increased by 5.06 percent.
  • Chile saw a modest increase of 4.31 percent.
  • Portugal also showed a slight increase of 0.34 percent.
  • Russia increased by 17.82 percent.

Significant Declines:

  • Mexico experienced the sharpest decrease, plummeting by 45.83 percent.
  • Taiwan exports fell by 41.43 percent.
  • Italy decreased by 35.21 percent.
  • Norway fell by 33.71 percent.
  • Finland plummeted by 62.47 percent.
  • Greece decreased by 45.29 percent.
  • South Africa plummeted by 60.77 percent.
  • Turkey decreased by 53.97 percent.

The May data for Vietnam’s wood and wooden products exports indicates an overall monthly decline, primarily due to significant reductions across many Asian and European markets. Despite continued strong demand from the USA and growth in the Netherlands, the sector faced headwinds in diversifying markets.
