Vietnam’s natural gas extraction on decline despite monthly uptick

Vietnam’s natural gas extraction sector posted mixed results in October 2024, showcasing both short-term growth and long-term challenges. According to Vietnam’s industrial production index, output in natural gas extraction rose by 19.1 percent compared to September 2024, marking a notable recovery.

However, the sector’s performance falters when viewed year-over-year. October 2024 saw a 24.2 percent decline in natural gas extraction compared to the same month in 2023, underscoring a substantial annual contraction. Furthermore, the cumulative figures for January through October 2024 reveal a 17.3 percent decrease over the same period last year, indicating persistent obstacles in the sector.
