Vietnam’s manioc exports surge in October, but year-to-date figures decline

Vietnam’s exports of manioc and manioc products saw significant growth in October 2024, with volumes reaching 176,383 tonnes and a value of US$76.14 million. This marks a 45.7 percent increase in volume and a 34.2 percent rise in value compared to September, which recorded 121,020 tonnes and US$56.74 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

However, year-to-date performance reveals a decline. From January to October, Vietnam exported 2.09 million tonnes of manioc and manioc products, valued at US$955.41 million. This represents a 12.7 percent decrease in volume and a 7 percent drop in value compared to the same period in 2023.

The October surge indicates short-term recovery, possibly driven by seasonal demand or improved pricing. Nevertheless, the year-to-date decline suggests ongoing challenges in the manioc sector, highlighting the need for strategies to stabilise exports and address market fluctuations.
