Vietnam’s imports of yarn fall 18.82 percent in January

Vietnam’s imports of yarn decreased by 18.82 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$193.46 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decline from US$238.31 million recorded in December.

Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of yarn stood at US$193.46 million. China remained the largest supplier, contributing US$125.53 million, or 64.9 percent of the total, followed by Taiwan with US$17.18 million, representing 8.9 percent, and India with US$11.50 million.

Among major suppliers, Pakistan recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing by 119.82 percent, followed by the Netherlands with a significant rise of 1,472.20 percent. Malaysia also saw an increase of 39.40 percent. In contrast, Japan experienced the steepest decline, with imports falling by 41.53 percent, while other key suppliers such as Thailand and Indonesia posted significant drops.

The yarn market in Vietnam continues to be highly dependent on China, which accounts for nearly 65 percent of total imports. While Pakistan and the Netherlands showed substantial growth, the overall decline from many key suppliers, especially Japan, suggests a shift in sourcing patterns.
