Vietnam’s imports of plastic products decreased by 18.43 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$679.68 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decline from US$833.22 million recorded in December.
Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of plastic products stood at US$679.68 million. China remained the largest supplier, contributing US$429.71 million, or 63.3 percent of the total, followed by South Korea with US$100.45 million, representing 14.8 percent, and Japan with US$53.98 million.
Among major suppliers, Denmark recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing by 35.67 percent. India also showed a slight increase of 1.87 percent. In contrast, Switzerland experienced the steepest decline, with imports falling 64.69 percent. Other suppliers, such as Italy, Indonesia, and Turkey, saw significant drops of 48.61 percent, 37.71 percent, and 47.64 percent, respectively.
The plastic products market in Vietnam remains highly dependent on China, which accounts for nearly 64 percent of total imports. While Denmark and India showed growth, the overall decline from most suppliers reflects shifting trade dynamics and potential adjustments in the sector.
