Vietnam’s imports of phones and parts fall in January

Vietnam’s imports of phones and parts decreased by 12.10 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$856.15 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a drop from US$973.97 million recorded in December.

Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of phones and parts stood at US$856.15 million. China remained the largest supplier, contributing US$756.13 million, or 88.3 percent of the total, followed by South Korea with US$32.03 million, representing 3.7 percent, and Taiwan with US$1.39 million.

Among major suppliers, Japan saw the highest month-on-month growth, increasing by 110.18 percent, while Taiwan posted a modest increase of 0.86 percent. In contrast, the UK experienced the steepest decline, with imports falling by 87.77 percent. Other key suppliers, such as South Korea and the USA, also posted significant drops of 29.14 percent and 43.74 percent, respectively.

The phones and parts market in Vietnam continues to be heavily reliant on China, which accounted for over 88 percent of the total imports. While Japan showed significant growth, the overall decline from most suppliers, particularly the UK and South Korea, suggests shifting dynamics in sourcing for this sector.
