Vietnam imported US$77.80 million worth of goods from Canada in February 2025, up 13.17 percent from US$68.75 million in January, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This brought total imports from Canada for the first two months of the year to US$146.57 million.
Soya beans saw a significant surge in February, rising to US$18.34 million from just US$4.62 million the month before. Fertiliser imports reached US$12.73 million, with no corresponding January figure, suggesting a large one-off shipment. The largest import category, however, was “other products” at US$19.16 million, though this marked a decline from January’s US$28.56 million.
Imports of machinery, equipment, tools and instruments rose sharply to US$7.36 million. Plastic materials increased to US$4.41 million, while chemical products jumped more than fourfold to US$1.46 million. Animal fodder, ferrous scrap, and wood products also maintained consistent import levels.
Some categories recorded notable drops. Wheat imports fell sharply to just over US$1 million from US$16.61 million in January. Fishery products declined to US$1.97 million, and fruit and vegetable imports also softened. Imports of pharmaceutical products, iron and steel, and base metals all remained within relatively low value ranges, showing a mixed trend across smaller segments.
Vietnam’s February imports from Canada were driven primarily by agricultural products and industrial inputs, reinforcing Canada’s role as a supplier of bulk commodities and specialised raw materials.
