Vietnam’s beer production estimated to reach 4.49 billion liters in 2024

Vietnam’s beer production for December 2024 is projected to be 411.4 million liters, with an estimated total of 4.49 billion liters for the entire year, according to Vietnam’s General Office of Statistics. This reflects a year-on-year decrease of 1 percent compared to 2023, although the sector remains a significant part of the country’s beverage industry.

In November 2024, the country produced 400.7 million liters of beer, maintaining steady output despite a slight increase in December.

Vietnam’s beer production is a significant component of its beverage industry and a key driver of economic growth, supported by a thriving domestic market and a strong beer-drinking culture. Vietnam is one of the largest beer consumers in Asia, with steadily increasing demand driven by a growing middle class, rising incomes, and a youthful population. Major breweries operate in the country, including both domestic and foreign brands, producing a wide range of products from mainstream lagers to premium craft beers.

Leading domestic producers such as Sabeco (Saigon Beer) and Habeco (Hanoi Beer) dominate the market, while global players like Heineken, Carlsberg, and AB InBev have established a strong presence through joint ventures and local operations. These companies have invested in modern production facilities, innovative marketing strategies, and product diversification to cater to Vietnam’s diverse consumer base. The rise of craft beer breweries in urban centres like Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi also reflects changing consumer preferences for premium and unique beer experiences.

Despite its success, the sector faces challenges, including competition, fluctuating raw material costs, and tightening government regulations on alcohol advertising and consumption. Sustainability is also becoming a focus, with breweries investing in energy-efficient processes and waste reduction.

As Vietnam’s economy grows and consumer preferences evolve, beer production is expected to expand further, with continued innovation and investment ensuring the sector remains a vital part of the country’s food and beverage industry.
