Vietnam’s beer and malt production increased by 5.0 percent in December 2024 compared to November 2024, according to Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index.
Year-on-year, the sector grew by 8.5 percent in December 2024 compared to December 2023. However, for the full year of 2024, cumulative production declined slightly by 0.1 percent compared to 2023, indicating stagnation in overall annual output.
The strong monthly growth in December reflects increased consumption during the holiday season, a peak period for beer and malt demand in Vietnam. The year-on-year growth in December further signals short-term recovery, although the minor contraction for the full year points to challenges such as rising raw material costs, increased competition, and changing consumer preferences.
As one of Asia’s largest beer consumers per capita, Vietnam’s beer industry is a significant contributor to the economy. The sector benefits from rising demand for premium products and export opportunities, though it faces pressures from regulatory changes and evolving health-conscious trends.
December’s positive results offer hope for the sector, but annual figures highlight the need for long-term strategies to sustain growth.
