Vietnam’s animal fodder imports saw a sharp increase in October 2024, rising by 39 percent month-on-month to US$403.72 million, reflecting growing demand for livestock and aquaculture feed. Year-to-date imports reached US$4.02 billion, underscoring the industry’s heavy dependence on global suppliers to meet domestic production needs, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Argentina emerged as the leading supplier, with imports more than doubling, up 115.98 percent compared to September, while imports from Brazil surged by 154.23 percent, driven by rising shipments of key raw materials such as soybean meal and corn. In contrast, imports from countries like Australia, Austria, and Canada recorded declines of 13.73 percent, 33.73 percent, and 44.28 percent respectively, indicating a shifting sourcing strategy.
China, one of Vietnam’s major partners, saw a slight decline of 5.40 percent, while Germany posted a notable 19.13 percent increase, highlighting Europe’s steady role in Vietnam’s feed supply chain. These import trends reflect the country’s efforts to secure raw materials amid growing domestic demand and fluctuating global markets.
