Vietnam pharmaceutical materials imports fall 20.41 percent in September over August

Vietnam’s imports of pharmaceutical materials in September fell by 20.41 percent over August, falling from US$39.7 million to US$31.6 million, according to data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This brings the total value of pharmaceutical materials imported into Vietnam in 2024 year-to-date to US$347.3 million.

Key insights

  • Despite a 16.91 percent decline in imports from China (dropping from US$28,664,787 to US$23,817,031), China continues to be the top supplier of pharmaceutical materials, with a year-to-date total of US$245,220,442.
  • Imports from France skyrocketed by 542.64 percent, though the absolute numbers are small, rising from US$42,630 in August to US$273,957 in September. This represents a significant increase but from a relatively low base.
  • India, traditionally a major supplier, saw a significant drop in imports, falling by 40.48 percent from US$6,960,828 in August to US$4,142,880 in September. However, India remains a key supplier with a year-to-date total of US$59,906,132.
