Vietnam dong black market sell rate jumps 190 dong, Friday

The State Bank of Vietnam’s central exchange rate stood at VND 25,101 on 17 October, down 8 dong or 0.03 percent from the previous day, while the Google Finance mid-market rate edged up to VND 26,349, an increase of 11 dong or 0.04 percent.

On the black market, according to Ty Gia USD, however, the change was much more pronounced with the buy rate rising to VND 27,235, up 141 dong or 0.52 percent.

The sell rate also increased to VND 27,385, up 191 dong or 0.70 percent.

The mid-market black rate climbed to VND 27,310, a gain of 166 dong or 0.61 percent.

The spread between the SBV and black market mid-rate widened to VND 2,209, up 174 dong or 8.55 percent.

The equivalent percentage spread expanded from 8.10 percent to 8.80 percent.

Repo and T-bill operations

The State Bank conducted repos worth US$189.76 million for 7-day terms, almost unchanged from the prior day.

Fourteen-day repos fell sharply to US$37.95 million from US$151.87 million.

Twenty-eight-day repos dropped to US$113.86 million from US$303.74 million.

Ninety-one-day repos decreased to US$37.95 million from US$113.90 million.

No T-bill activity was recorded.

Interbank interest rates

The overnight interbank rate rose to 5.00 percent from 4.82 percent, an increase of 0.18 percentage points or 3.73 percent.

The one-week rate climbed to 5.27 percent from 4.91 percent, up 0.36 points or 7.33 percent.

The two-week rate increased slightly to 5.21 percent from 5.08 percent, up 0.13 points or 2.56 percent.

The one-month rate edged up to 5.37 percent from 5.32 percent, up 0.05 points or 0.94 percent.

The three-month rate rose to 5.58 percent from 5.41 percent, an increase of 0.17 points or 3.14 percent.

The six-month rate remained unchanged at 5.83 percent.

The nine-month rate advanced to 5.20 percent from 5.02 percent, up 0.18 points or 3.59 percent.
