A report into the implementation of Vietnam’s Power Development Plan 7 has found that solar power development between 2016 and 2020 went well above what was planned, Vietnam News is reporting.
Key takeaways:
- The PDP7 set out a plan to develop 850 MW of solar power by 2020;
- However, a total of 168 solar projects with a total capacity of 14,707 MW were approved in that time;
- This led to 8,642 MW of grid-connected solar power being online by the end of 2020; and
- This was in excess of the grid infrastructure capacity.
As a result of this, solar power producers are regularly forced to curtail power generation to avoid overloading the grid.
