UK Pork approved for export to Vietnam

Several UK pork producers have been given the okay by the Vietnamese authorities to start exporting pork to Vietnam. It is estimated this could bring in US$15.3 million for the UK over the first five years.

Of note, back in March it was reported that the Vietnam Livestock Association and the Animal Feed, Large Livestock and Poultry Breeding associations had made a submission to the Government of Vietnam requesting additional technical barriers on imported meats. This was necessary, they argued, to level the playing field with other meat producing countries.

This, however, seems to have been targeted at cheap meat imports from other parts of Asia with meat from developed markets already meeting the fairly high quality standards.
