Vietnam’s exports increased to US$43.39 billion in August, up 2.6 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date exports reached US$305.96 billion, with foreign-invested enterprises contributing nearly 75 percent.
Electronics drove growth.
Computer and component exports surged 12.75 percent to US$10.15 billion, accounting for 21.86 percent of the total.
Phone shipments rose 2.92 percent to US$5.73 billion, while cameras and parts jumped 27.56 percent to US$832.05 million.
Machinery exports slipped 2.41 percent but still reached US$5.18 billion.
Agricultural goods were mixed.
Fruits and vegetables climbed 24.36 percent to US$951.13 million, rice rose 14.30 percent to US$436.45 million, and manioc surged 45.23 percent.
Coffee exports fell 17.24 percent to US$459.99 million, while pepper edged down 1.29 percent.
Cashews grew 2.76 percent.
Consumer exports eased.
Footwear fell 9.04 percent to US$1.99 billion, handbags dropped 5.64 percent, and textiles slipped 1.28 percent.
Toys declined slightly, while furniture exports gained modestly.
Wood products remained stable at US$1.46 billion.
Industrial inputs showed volatility.
Iron and steel plunged 20.86 percent to US$432.34 million, while chemicals rose 19.13 percent.
Fertilizer exports increased 15.10 percent, while base metals and petroleum products declined.
The data underscores Vietnam’s reliance on electronics, which together with machinery and phones made up nearly half of August exports.
Agricultural products provided momentum, offsetting weakness in consumer goods and metals.
