Vietnam imported US$16.41 billion worth of goods from China in August, down 1.94 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date imports stood at US$117.93 billion.
Computers and electrical products led at US$4.89 billion, down 2.34 percent month-on-month, while machinery reached US$3.48 billion, down 3.81 percent.
Mobile phones surged 22.49 percent to US$933.70 million.
Fabrics followed at US$817.20 million, slightly lower than July.
Other key imports included plastic products (US$618.90 million), iron and steel products (US$551.46 million), and raw iron and steel (US$457.80 million).
Chemicals, rubber products, and motor vehicles also made notable contributions despite mixed month-on-month movements.
The data highlights China’s continued role as Vietnam’s largest import source, particularly in high-tech, machinery, and raw materials, though short-term volatility persists across categories.
