Garments & textiles: Vietnam yarn imports slip 1 percent in August

Vietnam imported US$239.71 million of yarn in August, edging down 1.04 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year-to-date imports reached US$1.88 billion.

China dominated supply with US$163.63 million, or nearly 68 percent of YTD imports, followed by Taiwan at US$16.69 million and India at US$11.01 million.

Thailand also posted a notable 36.61 percent month-on-month increase. South Korea saw a sharp decline, while Japan’s shipments rose modestly.

China’s overwhelming share underlines Vietnam’s heavy reliance on its northern neighbour for yarn, though diversification is evident through smaller but rising flows from Taiwan, Thailand, and India.
