Tourist arrivals from the USA to Vietnam grow steadily in December

Vietnam welcomed 73,722 tourists from the United States in December, marking an increase of 4,485 visitors compared to November, equivalent to a month-on-month growth of 6.48 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. The total for 2024 stood at 779,795 arrivals, reflecting an 8.7 percent rise from the previous year.

American travellers continue to be an important demographic for Vietnam’s tourism sector. Popular destinations include Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City for their vibrant culture and history, and Phu Quoc and Da Nang for beach vacations. Many American tourists are drawn to Vietnam’s war history sites, such as the Cu Chi Tunnels and the War Remnants Museum, while others enjoy immersive experiences like food tours and rural homestays.

The travel behaviour of American visitors is diverse, with a growing preference for experiential travel. Many opt for guided tours focusing on heritage and gastronomy, while younger visitors are inclined towards adventure tourism and off-the-beaten-path destinations like Ha Giang and Sapa. Long-haul flights often lead Americans to plan extended vacations, exploring multiple regions within Vietnam.

Vietnam Airlines and American carriers like United Airlines and Delta have increased connectivity between the two countries, with additional flights helping to sustain growth. Promotional campaigns showcasing Vietnam’s diverse offerings and simplified visa procedures have also contributed to the rising numbers.

As arrivals from the USA continue to grow, 2024 looks promising for further strengthening this market, driven by enhanced connectivity and growing interest in Vietnam’s unique cultural and natural attractions.
