Televisions production in Vietnam up 3.82 percent in November

Vietnam produced 1,965.25 thousand televisions in November, up 3.82 percent from 1,892.99 thousand in October, according to the latest data from the National Statistics Office.

Over the first eleven months of the year, output reached 19,448.90 thousand.

Viettronics Tan Binh JSC

Viettronics Tan Binh JSC (VTB) manufactures and trades electrical appliances, lighting, and consumer electronics.

VTB closed at VND 20,700 on Friday up 1.35 percent with 1,787,000 shares traded, worth VND 3,552 million.

Foreign ownership in VTB is currently capped at 49.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 1.6 percent.

Digiworld Corporation

Digiworld Corporation (DGW) distributes information technology products, smartphones, and consumer electronics in Vietnam.

DGW closed at VND 39,050 on Friday down 0.55 percent with 11,869,000 shares traded, worth VND 46,151 million.

Foreign ownership in DGW is currently capped at 49.4 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 22.0 percent.

FPT Retail JSC

FPT Retail JSC (FRT) operates FPT Shop and F.Studio retail chains selling electronics, phones, and IT products.

FRT closed at VND 144,200 on Friday down 1.8 percent with 2,165,000 shares traded, worth VND 31,084 million.

Foreign ownership in FRT is currently capped at 49.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 32.4 percent.

Mobile World Investment Corporation

Mobile World Investment Corporation (MWG) runs retail chains including Thegioididong, Dien May Xanh, and Bach Hoa Xanh, selling electronics and groceries.

MWG closed at VND 87,000 on Friday up 1 percent with 93,102,000 shares traded, worth VND 785,411 million.

Foreign ownership in MWG is currently capped at 49.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 47.1 percent.

Thai Central Retail electronics exit

On Dec 23, Central Retail said it will sell all direct and indirect stakes in Nguyen Kim to Pico Holdings for about 1.14 billion baht (US$36 million).

The Thai retailer invested more than US$200 million over nearly 10 years, including a 2019 buyout valued at about VND 2.6 trillion (US$98.7 million).

SK telco R&D Vietnam 

South Korean telecommunications firm KT is pursuing plans to establish a group-level research and development centre in Vietnam by 2027, according to information and communications technology industry sources.

KT said it is benchmarking R&D models used by Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, as experts cite rising wages and labour regulations in South Korea as drivers of offshore R&D expansion.

High tech incentives

Vietnam is proposing amendments to the Law on High Technology that could weaken current incentives for foreign high-tech investors.

Delegates have warned that vague wording on incentives and a new two-tier classification of high-tech enterprises may disadvantage foreign-owned firms that cannot meet domestic-capital thresholds.
