Taiwanese tourist arrivals to Vietnam decline slightly in December but maintain strong YoY growth

Vietnam welcomed 111,246 tourists from Taiwan in December, a slight decrease of 3,703 visitors compared to November, reflecting a month-on-month decline of 3.22 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. However, arrivals for  all of 2024 reached 1,288,861 arrivals, showcasing a robust 51.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Taiwanese visitors continue to play an important role in Vietnam’s tourism sector, with key destinations like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang being particularly popular. These cities are valued for their cultural attractions, vibrant street food scenes, and convenient direct flight connections.

Many Taiwanese travellers display a preference for exploring Vietnamese culinary traditions, often joining food tours and markets. Others enjoy Vietnam’s coastal resorts and eco-tourism activities, such as hiking in Phong Nha-Ke Bang or relaxing in Phu Quoc. Short-haul trips remain a preferred travel style, driven by proximity and affordable travel costs.

Taiwanese tourists are increasingly leaning towards personalised travel experiences, with a focus on cultural and historical exploration. Younger travellers, in particular, are drawn to Vietnam’s modern cafes, art galleries, and shopping hubs. Meanwhile, group tours organised by Taiwanese travel agencies remain a steady contributor to arrivals.

Frequent direct flights operated by airlines such as EVA Air, Vietnam Airlines, and VietJet Air continue to sustain the market. Taiwan’s interest in Vietnam also benefits from targeted marketing campaigns and improved visa policies.

Despite December’s slight dip in arrivals, Taiwanese tourists remain an integral part of Vietnam’s tourism recovery, with 2024 expected to solidify their presence further.
