Swiss tourist arrivals to Vietnam decline by 17.01 percent in December despite strong annual growth

Vietnam welcomed 3,390 tourists from Switzerland in December, a decrease of 695 visitors compared to November, reflecting a month-on-month decline of 17.01 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. However, arrivals from Switzerland reached 33,584 in 2024, marking a 20.2 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Swiss tourists are drawn to Vietnam for its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and affordability. Popular destinations include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hoi An, where visitors explore historical landmarks, bustling markets, and local traditions. Scenic attractions like Halong Bay, Sapa, and the beaches of Phu Quoc and Da Nang are also favourites among Swiss travellers.

Many Swiss tourists prefer immersive travel experiences, such as eco-tourism and trekking, along with culinary tours to discover Vietnam’s diverse and fresh cuisine. Longer stays are typical for Swiss visitors, as they often combine multiple regions within one trip to experience Vietnam’s varied landscapes and culture.

While there are no direct flights between Switzerland and Vietnam, airlines like Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Turkish Airlines offer convenient connections via hubs like Doha, Dubai, and Istanbul. The December decline may reflect seasonal shifts in travel patterns, particularly with European winter holiday preferences.

Despite the monthly dip, Switzerland remains a valuable market for Vietnam’s tourism, with strong year-on-year growth supported by targeted promotions and Vietnam’s appeal as a long-haul destination.
