Vietnam welcomed 6,649 tourists from Spain in December, a significant decrease of 4,642 visitors compared to November, reflecting a month-on-month decline of 41.11 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. However, arrivals from Spain in 2024 reached 91,370, marking a 20.1 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Spanish tourists are attracted to Vietnam’s cultural richness and natural beauty. Key destinations include Hanoi, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City, alongside Halong Bay and the beaches of Da Nang and Phu Quoc. Spanish travellers often enjoy activities such as cultural tours, exploring local markets, and sampling authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
Spanish tourists typically plan long-haul trips that combine cultural and leisure experiences, making Vietnam a popular option in Southeast Asia. Many also explore eco-tourism and off-the-beaten-path destinations, such as Sapa and Ninh Binh, to experience Vietnam’s countryside and unique landscapes.
Travel connectivity is provided by airlines such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Turkish Airlines, offering connecting flights via Doha, Dubai, or Istanbul, as there are no direct flights between Spain and Vietnam. The significant December drop may be linked to seasonal shifts in travel preferences during the European winter holiday period.
Despite the monthly decline, Spain remains a growing European market for Vietnam’s tourism, supported by increasing interest in Vietnam’s cultural and natural attractions and ongoing promotional efforts.
