Plywood, veneer, and laminated wood production in Vietnam declines in January

Vietnam’s production of plywood, veneer, laminated wood, and other thin boards increased by 23.8 percent in January compared to the 2019 baseline, according to Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index. However, this was slightly lower than December 2024, when output stood at 24.9 percent above 2019 levels.

Month-on-month, production declined in January compared to December by 11.7 points. Despite this, the sector recorded a 12.5 percent year-on-year increase from January 2024, reflecting strong annual growth.

Vietnam’s production of plywood, veneer, laminated wood, and other thin boards has expanded significantly, driven by strong domestic demand and growing exports. The country is one of the largest wood product exporters in the world, supplying materials for furniture, construction, and interior decoration.

Plywood production has grown rapidly, with factories producing a variety of boards for furniture manufacturing and construction. Vietnam exports a large volume of plywood to markets such as the United States, China, and South Korea. Veneer and laminated wood are also widely produced, supporting both local and international furniture industries. These products are in high demand due to their durability, affordability, and suitability for home and office interiors.

The industry benefits from Vietnam’s abundant supply of raw materials, particularly plantation-grown timber such as acacia and eucalyptus. However, challenges remain, including the need for sustainable sourcing, compliance with international quality standards, and increasing competition from other wood-producing countries. Stricter regulations on timber legality and environmental concerns have led to greater investment in certified and eco-friendly production methods.
