The Philippines ships US$198.17 million of goods to Vietnam in October, up 3.80 percent

Note: An earlier version of this article had October and September data reversed. This has been corrected.

In October, Vietnam imported US$198 million worth of goods from the Philippines, up 3.80 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

So far this year, Vietnam has imported US$2,004 million worth of goods from the Philippines.

Vietnam’s biggest import from the Philippines in value terms was computers, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof, worth US$123.30 million. This was up 0.76 percent over September. It brings the total imported so far this year to US$1238.71 million.

This was followed by machine, equipment, tools and instruments, valued at US$34.44 million, up 19.21 percent from September. Year-to-date these imports reached US$303.01 million.

Other products were also popular imports from the Philippines, totalling US$15.13 million, rising 31.26 percent over September. Cumulative imports now stand at US$125.96 million.

Insulated wires and cables also featured prominently, accounting for US$9.68 million worth of imports from the Philippines, an increase of 19.10 percent versus September. Total imports so far this year are sitting at US$83.01 million.

Imports of parts and accessories of motor vehicles from the Philippines round out the top five, valued at US$3.11 million.

Vietnam trade with the Philippines

In October, Vietnam imported goods worth US$198.17 million from the Philippines and exported US$377.19 million, bringing total trade to US$575.37 million and resulting in a trade surplus of US$179.02 million.

Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and the Philippines has reached US$6663.09 million, with Vietnam importing US$2004.25 million worth of goods and exporting US$4658.83 million.

Vietnam-Philippines trade relations

Vietnam and the Philippines maintain strong bilateral trade ties under the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA).

The Philippines is among Vietnam’s key partners within ASEAN, particularly for agricultural and manufactured goods.

Vietnam mainly exports rice, machinery, textiles, and seafood to the Philippines, while importing electronics, machinery, and processed food.

Two-way trade between the countries has grown steadily over the past decade, driven by complementary economic structures and regional supply chain integration.

Both countries have expressed interest in expanding cooperation in energy, digital transformation, and logistics to further strengthen trade connectivity.
