Power projects acceleration
Ministry of Industry and Trade has requested investors to accelerate power generation and grid projects, bringing several facilities into operation 3–6 months earlier than approved plans under the adjusted Power Development Plan VIII.
The ministry said delays must be clearly reported with proposed solutions, while liquefied natural gas power projects must begin operation before January 1, 2031 to qualify for existing incentive mechanisms.

Vietnam’s Natural gas industry
Vietnam’s gas industry is a key part of the country’s energy mix, supplying fuel for power generation, fertiliser production, and industrial use.
Domestic gas production is concentrated offshore, with fields mainly located in the southern continental shelf and developed over several decades.
The sector is led by Petrovietnam, which oversees upstream exploration, gas processing, and pipeline infrastructure through its subsidiaries.
In recent years, Vietnam has begun developing liquefied natural gas import infrastructure to supplement declining domestic supply and support long-term power demand growth.
