Manufacturing: Vietnam’s industrial production rises 8.5 percent in first eight months of 2025

Vietnam’s industrial production index (IIP) rose 2.2 percent from July and 8.9 percent compared with August 2024, according to data released today by Vietnam’s National Statistics Office.

For the first eight months of 2025, the IIP increased 8.5 percent year-on-year.

The processing and manufacturing sector was the key driver, expanding 10.0 percent and accounting for most of the overall increase.

Water supply and waste management grew 9.1 percent, electricity output rose 4.9 percent, while mining fell 1.1 percent.

Several industries recorded strong gains, with motor vehicle production up 27.4 percent, rubber and plastics up 17.5 percent, non-metallic minerals up 15.0 percent, garments up 13.9 percent, and leather products up 13.4 percent.

Food processing rose 10.1 percent, while electronics grew 7.5 percent. In contrast, crude oil and gas extraction fell 5.5 percent, and beverage production rose only 2.6 percent.

Product output also highlighted rising demand: automobiles jumped 59.6 percent, televisions rose 21.4 percent, and fertilisers increased 17.9 percent. However, natural gas output dropped 9.4 percent and synthetic fibres fell 4.4 percent.

Employment in industrial firms grew 0.9 percent from July and 4.7 percent from a year earlier.

Foreign-invested enterprises added the most jobs, while state-owned and private enterprises posted smaller increases.
