Vietnam’s exports of plastic products reached US$649.68 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This marks a significant increase of 6.63 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) export value to US$2.97 billion.
Top Markets and Notable Increases:
- The USA remained the dominant market, with exports soaring by 18.90 percent to US$348.51 million. It accounts for a substantial 49.16 percent of YTD exports.
- Malaysia recorded a strong increase of 26.69 percent.
- Philippines exports jumped by 19.51 percent.
- Laos saw an impressive surge of 72.87 percent.
- Myanmar also showed significant growth of 30.51 percent.
- Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Greece, and Norway all registered positive month-on-month growth.
- Notably, Ukraine emerged as a new export market in May.
Significant Declines:
- Italy experienced a sharp drop of 38.55 percent.
- Russia exports plummeted by 43.24 percent.
- Mexico decreased by 36.61 percent.
- Belgium exports fell by 23.06 percent.
- Other notable declines were observed in India, UK, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Singapore, Turkey, Bangladesh, Cyprus, Finland, and Switzerland.
- Japan, South Korea, Germany, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Taiwan, France, Spain, Denmark, and Czech Republic all experienced slight decreases.
The May data for Vietnam’s plastic products exports indicates a strong overall performance, driven by continued robust demand from the USA and dynamic growth in several Southeast Asian markets. Despite declines in some European and other established markets, the sector’s adaptability and expanding reach are evident.
