Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, has officially approved the creation of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone (FTZ), The Investor has reported→view source.
The FTZ is set to cover 1,881 hectares across seven non-contiguous sites.
Key details:
- Location: Spans seven sites in Da Nang’s Lien Chieu and Hoa Vang districts
- Functional areas: Manufacturing and logistics; trade and services; digital tech, IT, and innovation
- Connectivity: Linked to Lien Chieu Port, Da Nang International Airport, and the East–West Economic Corridor
- Strategic aim: To become a regional hub for high-tech industry, supply chain logistics, and international goods transshipment
- Future vision: Will align with the planned Da Nang International Financial Center and promote digital transformation, AI, semiconductors, and cloud computing
Of note, while the zone has been legally established, no specific incentives or special mechanisms have been implemented yet (tax breaks, customs exemptions, or regulatory shortcuts) that set it apart from existing economic zones, high-tech parks, or export processing zones in Vietnam.
With this in mind, how important this announcement really is will depend on what special mechanisms and incentives are developed moving forward.
