Vietnam’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) is proposing to reduce the processing time for issuing work permits to foreign workers in Vietnam from 36 days to 10 days, English language news site, Vietnam News has reported.
Key details
- By the end of 2024, there were 161,992 foreign workers in Vietnam, of whom 149,195 required permits.
- The proposal includes online application and processing, a unified national database of foreign workers, and expanded recognition of foreign health certificates (valid for 12 months).
- Sector priorities and exemptions:
The draft decree proposes exempting university graduates from experience requirements if they are employed in high-demand sectors or under bilateral cooperation agreements. - Work permit exemptions are also being expanded to cover experts and lecturers recognised by ministries and special cases approved by the Government.
- The decree promotes administrative decentralisation, allowing employers to choose between applying through the MoHA or competent provincial authorities.
