Vietnam imported US$3.07 billion worth of goods from Taiwan in August 2025, down 4.75 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date imports stood at US$21.09 billion.
Computers and electrical products dominated with US$2.29 billion, accounting for 71 percent of total imports despite a 6.3 percent month-on-month decline.
Machinery (US$130 million) and fabrics (US$122 million) followed, both recording modest growth.
Plastics, however, fell sharply by nearly 18 percent, while chemicals rose 22 percent to US$66 million.
Iron and steel imports also climbed strongly by 43 percent.
Consumer and intermediate goods showed mixed patterns.
Cameras and parts were steady at US$56 million, while chemical products rose 13 percent.
Fishery imports plunged 54 percent, and pharmaceutical inflows dropped 76 percent.
Fertilisers, paper, and electric consumer products all softened, though food preparations nearly doubled to US$2.9 million.
Vietnam’s import profile from Taiwan remains heavily technology-centric, with electronics, machinery, and industrial materials driving the bulk of inflows.
Smaller consumer and food-related categories continue to fluctuate but remain marginal compared with high-value tech imports.
Of note, Vietnam–Taiwan trade has expanded rapidly in recent years, underpinned by strong industrial and investment ties.
Vietnam mainly exports textiles, footwear, seafood, machinery, and agricultural products to Taiwan, while importing electronics, machinery, petrochemicals, steel, and high-tech components.
Taiwan is also one of Vietnam’s largest sources of foreign direct investment, with significant projects in manufacturing, electronics, and infrastructure that integrate Vietnam into global supply chains.
