Vietnam’s April 2025 CPI rose 0.07 percent month-on-month and 3.12 percent year-on-year and was up 1.37 percent since December 2024, according to the latest data from the National Office of Statistics. Year-to-date CPI (Jan–Apr) also increased 3.2 percent with core inflation up 0.21 percent month-on-month and 3.05 percent year to date.
Main contributors to CPI increase
- Housing and utilities: up 0.62 percent, driven by higher rents, electricity, and water prices
- Food and eating out: up 0.12 percent, though food prices fell 0.65 percent
- Other goods and services: up 0.15 percent, notably jewellery (up 7.32 percent)
- Beverages and tobacco: up 0.11 percent due to higher production costs and demand
- Household appliances, clothing, healthcare, and tourism also saw slight increases
Price declines
- Transport: down 1.05 percent, largely due to falling gasoline and diesel prices
- Post and telecommunications: down 0.15 percent, led by cheaper smartphones and tablets
Stable
- Education: mostly unchanged; slight stationery increase offset by reduced fees in Lao Cai
