Vietnam’s imports of paper products reached US$114.69 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents an increase of 6.55 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$478.45 million.
China continues to overwhelmingly dominate the market:
China remained the primary source for paper product imports, with a May value of US$87.61 million. This signifies a strong increase of 6.20 percent from April and accounts for a commanding 74.03 percent of the total year-to-date imports.
South Korea and Indonesia show strong growth:
Imports from South Korea surged by 20.40 percent to US$5.17 million in May, solidifying its position as a key supplier. Indonesia’s imports also grew by 7.30 percent to US$4.27 million.
Notable month-on-month surges from various markets:
Several countries exhibited remarkable month-on-month growth in May:
- The “Other” category recorded an astonishing surge of 87.45 percent, indicating a broader diversification of smaller-scale suppliers.
- Taiwan imports grew by 27.70 percent.
- Japan and Malaysia also showed moderate increases.
Significant decreases in imports:
Conversely, some markets faced substantial declines in imports in May:
- Thailand saw the largest drop of 25.45 percent, falling to US$4.43 million.
- Germany imports decreased by 19.78 percent.
- Singapore imports fell by 18.76 percent.
- USA imports decreased by 16.68 percent.
- Hong Kong also experienced a minor decrease of 8.93 percent.
The overall increase in May’s paper product imports suggests continued demand in Vietnam, with China’s dominant position remaining strong, while other suppliers show dynamic shifts in their contributions.
