Role overview:
We’re looking for a self-starting freelance Business Development Manager to help shape and grow our commercial strategy. You’ll be responsible for identifying new revenue opportunities, pitching services, and building partnerships. While you’ll have access to editorial support and product guidance, you’ll need to develop and drive your own sales strategy from scratch.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a business development strategy aligned with the-shiv’s goals
- Identify potential sponsors, advertisers, consulting clients, and distribution partners
- Design outreach campaigns and build a strong lead pipeline
- Pitch services and secure commercial opportunities across sectors like trade, FDI, and policy
- Track outreach performance and optimise approach as needed
- Work closely with the founder to align strategy with editorial direction
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in business development, B2B sales, or partnerships — preferably in media, consulting, or economic sectors
- Excellent communication, pitch writing, and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently, set your own plan, and execute with minimal oversight
- Strong understanding of economic or trade-focused content is a plus
- Based in Southeast Asia (HCMC preferred, not required)
