Food & beverage: Vietnam imports up 20.17 percent in May, Indonesia top supplier

Vietnam’s imports of animal, vegetable fats and oils reached US$149.53 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a significant increase of 20.17 percent compared to April, with a year-to-date (YTD) import value of US$607.41 million.

Indonesia remains the top supplier with substantial growth:

Indonesia was the leading supplier in May, with imports valued at US$77.48 million. This marks a substantial increase of 24.18 percent from April and accounts for the largest share of the year-to-date imports at 56.71 percent.

Malaysia remains a key supplier with moderate growth:

Malaysia was the second-largest supplier in May, with imports valued at US$45.12 million, showing an increase of 9.38 percent from the previous month. Malaysia accounts for 26.09 percent of the year-to-date imports.

China sees extraordinary growth:

Imports from China surged by 386.95 percent in May, reaching US$8.20 million. China accounts for 3.05 percent of the year-to-date imports.

Thailand records substantial growth:

Imports from Thailand experienced a substantial increase of 33.93 percent in May, reaching US$7.71 million. Thailand accounts for 5.47 percent of the year-to-date imports.

India records significant growth:

Imports from India saw an increase of 29.67 percent in May, reaching US$1.86 million. India accounts for 1.28 percent of the year-to-date imports.

Significant month-on-month increases and decreases:

USA experienced the largest month-on-month increase at 156.89 percent, followed by Singapore and China. Conversely, Australia experienced the most significant decrease at 63.22 percent, followed by South Korea and Chile.
