Vietnam imported US$83.10 million worth of goods from the United Kingdom in August 2025, down 3.6 percent from July’s US$86.24 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date imports reached US$630.91 million.
Machinery and equipment dominated imports at US$34.16 million, slightly down 3.4 percent from July.
Other products rose sharply by 37.3 percent to US$16.23 million, while pharmaceutical imports fell by 31.3 percent to US$5.18 million.
Plastic products declined 14.5 percent to US$4.96 million, and chemicals dropped 8.7 percent to US$4.21 million.
Fishery product imports slumped 44.1 percent to US$4.17 million, while imports of motor vehicles increased 22.1 percent to US$1.60 million.
Imports of still image and video cameras surged to US$374,465 compared with just US$45,233 in July.
Telephones and parts also rose significantly, reaching US$145,904, a nearly five-fold increase.
The United Kingdom remains a mid-tier supplier for Vietnam, providing a broad range of goods led by machinery, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.
Despite the overall dip in August, select categories such as cameras and telephones recorded notable gains.
UK–Vietnam trade has expanded in recent years, strengthened by the UK–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) that took effect in 2021.
The agreement has helped reduce tariffs, improve market access, and encourage investment in key sectors such as renewable energy, education, and services.
Despite global supply chain disruptions, bilateral trade has remained resilient, with opportunities in green growth, digital economy, and advanced manufacturing.
Challenges include non-tariff barriers, compliance with UK standards, and limited logistics connectivity.
