In March 2025, the price index for drinks and tobacco in Vietnam saw an increase of 0.69 percent compared to the previous month, according to Vietnam’s Consumer Price Index. This contributed to a 0.09 percentage point rise in the overall CPI for March 2025.
The year-on-year data shows a notable increase of 2.26 percent compared to March 2024, indicating that the sector has experienced moderate inflation over the past year. The growth in prices was mainly driven by increased consumer demand during the Lunar New Year, which led to a rise in alcohol and tobacco prices.
Specifically, the alcohol price index rose by 0.80 percent, while cigarette prices increased by 0.70 percent. Non-alcoholic beverages also saw a rise of 0.36 percent, reflecting the ongoing consumer preference shifts and higher production costs across the sector.
