Vietnam’s imports of milk and milk products reached US$126.52 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a significant increase of 13.59 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$578.95 million.
New Zealand leads despite a decline, while USA and Australia show growth:
New Zealand remained the primary source for milk and milk product imports, with a May value of US$30.85 million. This signifies a decrease of 12.59 percent from April, but New Zealand still accounts for a substantial 33.12 percent of the total year-to-date imports. The USA and Australia, conversely, saw their imports increase by 17.91 percent and 16.52 percent respectively.
Extraordinary month-on-month surges from various markets:
Several countries exhibited remarkable month-on-month growth in May, often from lower bases:
- Ireland recorded an astonishing surge of 500.21 percent, reaching US$8.00 million.
- Thailand imports jumped by 104.56 percent.
- Singapore imports surged by 121.67 percent.
- Spain saw a substantial increase of 134.20 percent.
- Netherlands imports grew by 80.38 percent.
- Lithuania recorded a rise of 45.30 percent.
- Belgium and Malaysia also showed strong increases.
- Armenia and Philippines emerged as new suppliers in May after having no imports in April.
Notable declines in imports:
Conversely, some markets faced substantial declines in imports in May:
- France saw a sharp drop of 37.93 percent.
- Germany imports decreased by 18.64 percent.
- Poland imports fell by 16.36 percent.
- Denmark and Japan also experienced notable decreases.
The overall strong increase in May’s milk and milk product imports indicates a rising demand in Vietnam, with New Zealand retaining its lead despite a slight dip, while a diverse set of new and growing suppliers contribute significantly to the market.
