Vietnam’s crude oil extraction continued to soften in April 2025, with output down both month-on-month and compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from the National Statistics Office.
Preliminary figures show that March 2025 production reached 682.3 thousand tons, while estimated output for April fell to 628.0 thousand tons. This marks an 8.9 percent decline compared to April 2024, with production reaching just 91.1 percent of last year’s level for the month.
Cumulative production for the first four months of 2025 stood at 2.57 million tons, representing a 7.6 percent year-on-year decrease. Output during this period reached 92.4 percent of the volume recorded in the same period in 2024.
Key figures:
- March 2025 (Preliminary): 682.3 thousand tons
- April 2025 (Estimate): 628.0 thousand tons
- Cumulative Jan–Apr 2025: 2,570.7 thousand tons
- April YoY change: -8.9% (91.1% of April 2024)
- 4-month YoY change: -7.6% (92.4% of Jan–Apr 2024)
The data reflects a broader downward trend in Vietnam’s crude output, which may be linked to declining field productivity or shifting energy priorities. The sector is expected to face further pressure unless new reserves are brought online or recovery efficiency improves.
