Crude oil production in Vietnam fell 1.84 percent month-on-month to 690,000 tonnes in September 2025, according to data from the National Statistics Office.
Output in August was 703,000 tonnes.
For the first nine months of the year, production totalled 6.03 million tonnes, up 6.3 percent from the same period in 2024.
However, September output was 1.12 percent lower than a year earlier, reflecting slower well performance or temporary maintenance at major fields.

Vietnam’s crude oil industry is a key contributor to the national economy and energy security, though its role has declined as reserves mature and output falls.
Production is centred offshore, mainly in the Cuu Long, Nam Con Son, and Song Hong basins, operated by state-owned PetroVietnam (PVN) and joint ventures with foreign firms.
Crude oil output has declined from peak levels in the mid-2000s due to natural depletion and limited new discoveries.
Most crude is exported, while domestic refining capacity—mainly at the Dung Quat and Nghi Son refineries—covers only part of national fuel demand.
Imports of crude for processing have increased to support refinery operations.
Challenges include falling reserves, high exploration costs, and the shift toward cleaner energy sources.
Vietnam is focusing on enhanced recovery, deep-water exploration, and downstream development to maintain energy balance while aligning with its carbon reduction goals.
