Vietnam’s crude oil industry
Vietnam’s crude oil industry plays a central role in the country’s energy and export structure, driven by offshore reserves in the Cuu Long and Nam Con Son basins.
Domestic production has declined in recent years as older fields mature, leading to increased dependence on imported crude for domestic refineries such as Dung Quat and Nghi Son.
Crude oil remains one of Vietnam’s top export commodities, though refining capacity expansion has shifted more focus toward domestic processing.
The government continues to promote exploration investment, with partnerships involving PetroVietnam and international energy firms to stabilise supply and support energy security.
