Consumer goods: Vietnam electric consumer products imports dip 2.67 percent in May

Vietnam’s imports of electric consumer products and parts thereof reached US$232.32 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a slight decrease of 2.67 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$1.25 billion.

China and Thailand remain top suppliers with mixed performance:

China continued to be the primary source for these imports, with a May value of US$85.99 million, showing a marginal increase of 0.17 percent from April. China accounts for 33.02 percent of the year-to-date imports. Thailand, a close second, saw its imports decrease by 10.16 percent to US$84.28 million in May, yet still holds a larger share of YTD imports at 40.68 percent.

Malaysia shows slight growth:

Imports from Malaysia increased by 2.53 percent to US$39.50 million in May, maintaining its position as a significant supplier, contributing 17.47 percent to YTD imports.

Indonesia and Japan record strong month-on-month surges:

Several countries exhibited significant month-on-month growth in May:

  • Indonesia imports surged by 79.00 percent, reaching US$5.84 million.
  • Japan saw a substantial increase of 76.68 percent, with imports valued at US$2.96 million.
  • Italy imports grew by 58.54 percent.
  • Taiwan recorded a rise of 30.10 percent.

South Korea and Spain experience declines:

Conversely, imports from South Korea decreased by 24.66 percent to US$4.91 million. Spain also experienced a decline of 24.69 percent.

The overall slight dip in May’s imports of electric consumer products and parts suggests a stable but slightly contracting market, with China and Thailand continuing to dominate the supply while other sources show more dynamic month-on-month fluctuations.
