Chinese tourist arrivals to Vietnam continue impressive growth, rising 14.28 percent in December

Vietnam recorded 387,861 Chinese tourist arrivals in December, an increase of 48,462 visitors compared to November, reflecting a robust month-on-month growth of 14.28 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. Arrivals for 2024 reached 3,738,126 visitors, marking an exceptional 114.4 percent growth compared to the previous year.

Chinese tourists are a vital market for Vietnam’s tourism sector, with many opting for quick getaways to nearby destinations like Halong Bay, Nha Trang, and Da Nang. These locations appeal to Chinese travellers with their vibrant nightlife, cultural heritage sites, and picturesque beaches. Shopping in bustling markets and malls, alongside sampling Vietnamese-Chinese fusion cuisine, remains a popular activity for visitors from China.

Group travel dominates the market, but there is a growing trend of independent Chinese tourists exploring Vietnam. These travellers seek unique experiences such as culinary tours, eco-tourism, and cultural immersion. Additionally, major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City attract visitors with their mix of modern and traditional elements, providing abundant sightseeing and business opportunities.

Vietnam’s proximity and strong air connectivity with China contribute significantly to the inflow of tourists. Airlines such as China Southern Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, and budget carriers like VietJet Air operate frequent flights connecting the two countries, further driving growth.

As the largest source of international arrivals for Vietnam, Chinese tourists are expected to remain a key driver of the country’s tourism recovery, supported by favourable travel policies and targeted marketing campaigns.
