Chemicals: Vietnam insect & rodent spray imports dip 8.85 percent in May

Vietnam’s imports of insecticides, rodenticides, and related materials reached US$91.14 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents an 8.85 percent decrease compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$432.74 million.

China remains the largest supplier despite a decline:

China continued to be the primary source for these imports, with a May value of US$40.58 million. This signifies a decrease of 13.74 percent from April but still accounts for a significant 44.63 percent of the total year-to-date imports.

India and Germany show strong growth:

Imports from India increased by 17.95 percent to US$10.95 million in May, solidifying its position as the second-largest supplier. Germany’s imports also grew substantially by 41.82 percent to US$9.39 million.

Indonesia and Belgium record massive month-on-month surges:

Several countries exhibited extraordinary month-on-month growth in May:

  • Belgium recorded an astonishing surge of 467.83 percent, albeit from a low base.
  • Indonesia imports jumped by 140.91 percent, reaching US$2.74 million.

Significant decreases in imports from various markets:

Conversely, some markets faced substantial declines in imports in May:

  • Japan saw the largest drop of 63.48 percent.
  • Switzerland imports decreased by 47.68 percent.
  • Taiwan fell by 43.93 percent.
  • UK imports decreased by 43.26 percent.
  • USA experienced a decline of 29.64 percent.
  • South Korea and Singapore also saw notable decreases.

The overall decline in May’s imports of insecticides, rodenticides, and materials suggests a softening demand or strategic adjustments in sourcing, with China remaining the dominant, albeit declining, supplier.
