Automotive: Vietnam car output surges 76.9 percent in first four months of 2025

Vietnam produced an estimated 39,500 cars in April 2025, up 60 percent year-on-year. This was also up about 1,400 units over March which recorded 38,100 cars produced, according to the latest data from the National Office of Statistics.

Cumulative output for the first four months of the year reached 147,300 units, marking a 76.9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Of note, Vietnam’s automotive industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, driven by rising domestic demand, foreign investment, and an expanding manufacturing base.

The sector is a crucial part of the country’s industrialization, providing jobs and contributing to economic development. Vietnam is a growing player in the Southeast Asian automotive market, with both local and international companies investing heavily in production facilities.

The industry is dominated by foreign automakers such as Toyota, Honda, Ford, and Hyundai, which have set up assembly plants in the country. These companies primarily assemble vehicles from imported parts, though there is increasing focus on localizing production by sourcing components domestically.

This shift is aimed at reducing costs, improving supply chain efficiency, and boosting the domestic supply of auto parts and accessories.

Vietnam’s automotive market is growing, with increasing demand for both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, driven by urbanization, rising incomes, and the expansion of the middle class.

The government has supported the sector through policies aimed at promoting local production, reducing import duties, and encouraging the development of infrastructure such as roads and vehicle manufacturing facilities.
