Asian tourist arrivals in Vietnam rise in December

Vietnam welcomed 1,382,509 tourists from Asia in December, an increase of 24,740 visitors or 1.82 percent compared to November, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism.

For 2024, Vietnam received 13,997,051 Asian tourists, reflecting a 43.1 percent growth from the same period last year. Asia continues to dominate Vietnam’s international tourism, driven by the proximity and strong cultural ties with key markets such as China, South Korea, and Japan.

Asian tourists display a variety of consumer behaviours and preferences when visiting Vietnam. Many prioritise cultural and historical experiences, such as visiting temples, pagodas, and heritage sites like My Son Sanctuary and Hue. Culinary experiences are also highly sought after, with local street food tours and cooking classes being popular activities. Shopping habits include purchasing traditional handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs. Additionally, younger Asian tourists often seek Instagrammable locations, adventure tourism, and wellness experiences, such as spa and meditation retreats.

Vietnam’s tourism industry has rebounded strongly post-pandemic, with strategic marketing campaigns and improved air connectivity driving growth. Airlines like Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways provide regular flights connecting major Asian cities to Vietnam, ensuring accessibility for regional travellers.

Vietnam’s efforts to position itself as a top-tier destination in Asia have paid off, with sustained interest in its historical sites, natural landscapes, and dynamic cities.
