American tourist arrivals in Vietnam decline slightly in December

Vietnam recorded 92,175 visitors from the Americas in December, a decrease of 2,912 visitors or 3.06 percent compared to November, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. Despite this monthly dip, the total number of visitors from the Americas reached 1,000,077 in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 10.7 percent.

Tourists from the Americas, particularly the United States and Canada, are drawn to Vietnam for its rich history, natural beauty, and affordable luxury. They often favour visiting iconic destinations such as Hanoi’s Old Quarter, the Cu Chi Tunnels in Ho Chi Minh City, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Hoi An Ancient Town and Ha Long Bay. Many also enjoy Vietnam’s culinary culture, with pho, banh mi, and coffee being popular choices.

Visitors from the Americas tend to seek authentic experiences, such as cultural tours, culinary classes, and community-based tourism. They also show interest in wellness tourism, including spa retreats and yoga sessions, as well as adventure activities like trekking and motorbike tours.

Vietnam’s tourism growth among American visitors has been supported by expanded flight options and enhanced tourism marketing efforts. Airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Air Canada provide direct and connecting flights, ensuring seamless travel for tourists from the Americas.

As Vietnam continues to improve its tourism offerings and infrastructure, the Americas market is expected to maintain steady growth, contributing significantly to the nation’s travel industry.
