Agriculture: Vietnam rice exports drop 27.13% in May

Vietnam’s exports of rice reached US$408.22 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a significant decrease of 27.13 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) export value to US$2.17 billion.

Top Markets and Notable Increases:

  • Mozambique saw an impressive surge of 100.46 percent, reaching US$5.78 million.
  • The USA recorded a substantial increase of 122.22 percent to US$5.69 million.
  • Cambodia exports jumped by 59.93 percent.
  • Spain saw a dramatic rise of 334.42 percent, albeit from a smaller base.
  • Angola increased by 272.21 percent.
  • Ukraine also showed strong growth of 34.17 percent.
  • Malaysia and Singapore registered slight increases.
  • Netherlands saw a 14.48% increase.
  • South Africa increased by 31.34%.
  • Iraq and Brunei Darussalam also appeared as new export markets in May.

Significant Declines:

  • Ivory Coast experienced the sharpest decline, plummeting by 68.05 percent.
  • China exports fell by 60.76 percent.
  • Senegal saw a drastic decrease of 97.92 percent.
  • Poland dropped by 57.95 percent.
  • Taiwan decreased by 44.42 percent.
  • Russia exports fell by 41.30 percent.
  • France saw a 36.26 percent decrease.
  • Philippines, despite remaining the largest market, saw exports drop by 12.47 percent.
  • Ghana, UAE, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia also experienced notable declines.
  • Notably, there were no exports to Bangladesh, Belgium, or Turkey in May, after significant exports in April.
