Vietnam exported US$1.46 billion worth of wood and wooden products in August 2025, down 0.50 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date exports reached US$11.12 billion.
The United States remained the dominant buyer with US$796 million in August and US$6.20 billion year-to-date, representing more than half of Vietnam’s total.
Japan followed with a strong 14.3 percent increase to US$208 million, while China also grew 5.7 percent to US$185 million.
South Korea recorded a slight decline of 2.6 percent to US$61 million, while Canada posted a 6 percent increase to US$25 million.
The UK and Malaysia both improved modestly, while exports to Australia remained flat.
European markets were mixed, with France and Germany showing small gains, but the Netherlands plunging nearly 47 percent month-on-month.
Among smaller destinations, South Africa more than doubled its purchases to nearly US$1 million, while Sweden and India also expanded sharply.
In contrast, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and Portugal saw notable declines.
Vietnam’s wood manufacturing industry is a major contributor to its export economy, supplying furniture, plywood, and other wood products to key markets including the US, EU, Japan, and South Korea.
The sector benefits from abundant domestic resources, strong craftsmanship, and significant foreign investment, making Vietnam one of the world’s leading furniture exporters.
However, the industry relies heavily on imported timber, raising issues of sustainability and traceability.
Despite challenges related to raw material sourcing, logistics, and environmental pressures, wood manufacturing is central to Vietnam’s industrial and export base.
